On first reference, use either Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol or attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. In subsequent references, use on of the following:

• January 6th
• January 6th attack
• 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol

Spell out the month January, as opposed to the standard way of writing a date with the month abbreviated. For specific memorials or groups in relationship to January 6th, follow proper name rules.
