Happy birthday, EAPM

Equal Access Public Media will celebrate it’s second birthday in November.

Over the past two years, we’ve grown a lot. It’s not been the easiest road, but we’ve managed to launch the EAPM Style and Accessibility Guide, The Word magazine, and start offering training services to journalism organizations and news outlets.

This is the little organization that can’t and won’t give up. And the growth just continues.

EAPM welcomes editorial intern, two new board members

Equal Access Public Media welcomed Brianna Bohling-Hall as our first editorial intern in October. Bohling-Hall is a student researcher, award-winning podcast creator, and a current fourth-year student at the University of Iowa. She will be focusing on gaining skills as an editor in digital accessibility, and in working in the nonprofit and public media world.

The EAPM board of directors also added two new members who bring a wealth of experience in nonprofits.

After a career as an analyst in the nuclear energy sector and then a pivot to the meaningful work of the nonprofit world, Shounteé Turner founded the The Write Narrative, LLC, in 2019 with the goal of helping to secure greater access to funding for woman- and minority-led nonprofits and small businesses. She is a Black women entrepreneur, and her professional writing firm specializes in grant writing, fundraising strategy, and business storytelling, and has successfully helped secure substantial funding to ensure that underrepresented organizations have inclusive access to the resources they need to create lasting change. Now Turner is lending her nonprofit fundraising expertise to help support EAPM.

Mike Bodman came to the nonprofit sector after successfully building a contracting business from the ground up, scaling it into a major supplier with multiple warehouses. Following the sale of his company, he transitioned to a period of care-giving before dedicating his skills to the non-profit sector. He then led a food bank in Long Beach, growing it into one of the largest in the Southern California region early in the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, Bodeman is using those same skills of connecting businesses will nonprofits to help grow EAPM.

The Word magazine moves to new website

The Word from Equal Access Public Media

The Word magazine started as a small corner of the EAPM Style and Accessibility Guide when the Guide moved to its own site in late August. But after a month of publishing, the overwhelming readership response showed The Word needed to flourish outside of the Guide.

Now its own site, The Word covers issues and trends in journalism, news style, and accessibility in the media, and is now available at the-word.news.

Fall fund drive misses the mark, but efforts continue

Although the Fall Fund Drive total came in far under the goal of $1,500, Equal Access Public Media is continuing our efforts to find new donors.

We are also applying for new grants as they come available.Although the Fall Fund Drive total came in far under the goal of $1,500, Equal Access Public Media is continuing our efforts to find new donors.

We know these are tough times for everyone. Grant opportunities shrank in 2025, and donors are finding themselves less able to give. That means we need to reach more people than ever before — and we can with the help of friends like you.

Dates to remember
