Equal Access Public Media announces rebrand to the Organization for Accessible Journalism
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Equal Access Public Media (EAPM), a national organization focused on accessibility in the journalism industry, announces that it will officially rebrand as the Organization for Accessible Journalism to more clearly reflect the organization’s mission and work.
The transition will take place on Aug. 1, 2026, including the launch of a new URL, logo and email addresses. The organization will promote the transition over the summer to the public.
“While our name is changing, our mission is the same,” said Stacy Kess, Founder and Chief of Editorial and Projects. Kess is based out of Boston. “We remain focused on bringing accessibility to the journalism industry and to public-facing news products across the industry.”
EAPM was founded to improve accessibility with the journalism industry and public facing news products, the organization says the new name more directly communicates its purpose.
“We see this rebrand as a way to clarify our mission to the public and to those in the industry,” E. Simone Jenerson, Chief of Operations said. Jenerson is based out of the Greater New York City area.
As part of the transition plan, the organization will:
- Promote the change on its website throughout the summer, informing visitors that Equal Access Public Media will become the Organization for Accessible Journalism.
- Maintain old email addresses which will be forwarded to new email addresses.
- Prominently publicize the transition across communication channels.
- Place a banner on its website ahead of the rebrand.
- Launch a new website, www.accessiblejournalism.org, on Aug. 1, 2026.
- Maintain its previous website URL, which will redirect it to the new website.
Equal Access Public Media was formed in November 2023 after working with an advisory council of disabled journalists.
The original name, Equal Access Public Media, was selected during the organization’s preparatory stages in 2023, by the advisory council. Each word was intentionally chosen to reflect the values of EAPM.
- “Equal Access” represented the tenants of accessibility.
- “Public” reflected a commitment to the public interest of news.
- “Media” emphasized a focus on journalism.
