It’s that time of year again.
School’s back in session, and so are fall fund drives. At Equal Access Public Media, we got a bright idea: why not combine the two?
We’re calling it…
Back to school with EAPM
We got some great topics together, and we thought we’d offer some lunch-hour discussions.
All we ask is that you donate at least $10 to attend a session. Fair? We think so. You get some food-for-thought. We get to do a better fall fund drive.

Choose your sessions
Too cool for plain language?
Think plain language isn’t right for you? Think again! It’s right for everyone, and it’s nothing like you think it is. Let’s talk about the myths of plain language — and the truth, too. Presented by Stacy Kess, EAPM chief of editorial.
Stop getting dirty with inspiration porn
A great session for everyone in media! What is inspiration porn? It’s more common than you realize, and there are more types of inspiration porn than you know. Learn how to spot it, how to avoid it, and how to be a better ally to the disability community. Presented by Stacy Kess, EAPM chief of editorial.
Two sessions to choose from:
Be your own best advocate
Asking for what you need can feel intimidating, but it’s a critical part of self-advocacy. Move past your fears for requesting accommodations at work, at school, or anywhere. Let’s identify your specific needs and frame your request to focus on effectiveness instead of special treatment. We’ll talk about who to talk to, how to open the conversation, and how to get the support you need to succeed. Presented by Britne Jenke, founder of Inclusive Pixelation and EAPM secretary, board of directors.
Good news, bad news
For you non-journalists out there! How do you know if what you’re getting is quality news? How do you know if it’s misinformation? How do you know if it’s opinion, fact, analysis, or a partisan news site? Let’s talk this through and help you find some resources. Presented by Stacy Kess, EAPM chief of editorial.
Two sessions to choose from:
What’s really fair about news balance?
Reporters, when is it inappropriate to get “the other side?” Are there “two-sides” to every issue? How do we know if we’re being factual, biased, or promoting false balance? In these divided times, what is balance anyway? Let’s hash it out. Presented by Stacy Kess, EAPM chief of editorial.
How to register for the sessions
Ready to register for a session? Or for several sessions? Great! It’s just two easy steps:
#1. Grab your ticket
After you register, we’ll email you a link to your session. Registration for sessions is free and no donation is required to attend.
#2. Make a donation
We suggest at least $10 per session, but how little or how much you donate is entirely up to you. We’ve set a goal of raising $1,500 by the end of the fall fund drive.
