EAPM celebrates May Day
Today is International Workers’ Day, better known as May Day. May 1 was first designated as a day to honor protests in the Haymarket Riot. Labor protesters and police confronted each other in 1886 following peaceful protests in support of fair labor — specifically, an eight-hour workday.
Part of EAPM’s mission is also about fair labor: to improve accessibility in the journalism field so that more disabled and chronically ill people and caregivers have access to better jobs and working conditions.
To us, it doesn’t matter whether fair and accessible conditions come through the news outlet we’re building, the National Tab, or through a competitor. We won’t stop talking about accessibility in the journalism field until all newsrooms are accessible.
Get stylish

After more than a year of development, we’re launching the EAPM Style and Accessibility Guide! This guide combines journalism style with language, digital, and web accessibility tips so journalists can be more inclusive to people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, and other alternative forms of communication.
EAPM didn’t see anything like this style guide out there, and we knew journalists and news outlets needed a resource like this. Although the style guide is available to use now, we’re still working on it. We’ll be doing a formal launch in June with a webinar. Watch for more details.
We are very excited to open this unique resource to any journalist or news organization. It’s free to use, though donations are always welcome.
National Tab fund update
We raised $1,546 during the Spring Fund Drive, which ended April 15. But the push to $50,000 to launch the National Tab continues. Please help spread the word. You can directly refer your network to our campaign! Every little bit helps. Thank you!
Shop to support EAPM
EAPM has new merchandise in stock, including a News A11y baseball cap and a EAPM zip hoodie. All proceeds above production and handling costs from the EAPM store support EAPM’s mission, so you get something and support EAPM at the same time.
