EAPM heads back to school

Back to school with EAPM! Fall fund drive 2025

Fall means school and fund drives

We know, we know. Everyone is running their fall fund drives just as school is back in full swing.

So at Equal Access Public Media, we got a bright idea: combine the two. Instead of just asking for donations, why not offer some great discussion sessions. If you think they’re worth something, maybe you’ll donate!

We’re keeping these group discussions small — groups of about 20 people each — and we’re covering topics ranging from plain language to accommodations to inspiration porn.

See the schedule of sessions and sign up!

A graphic image representing digital accessibility in journalism showing a person at the center sitting in a computer surrounded symbols of accessibility and disability: an ear in a circle for access for audio assitance, an eye in a box for access for visual assistance, a finger for Braille, and a head in circle for assistance for cognitive impairment all surrounding a person in sitting on a computer monitor.

Style Guide magazine launches with huge impact

The EAPM Style and Accessibility Guide magazine, The Word, launched Sept. 12 and quickly followed up with analysis from acclaimed journalist Jennifer Schulze, writer Fendi S. Tulodo, and journalist and author Sandy Ernest Allen.Young journalists are currently working on articles looking at topics on lies and misinformation, precision and accuracy, and more.

We’re getting pitches every day, and invited top-rated journalists to share their ideas with us on trends they see in the news, their thoughts on accessibility, and more.

We’ve already heard feedback that this magazine is “necessary,” “hard-hitting,” and “doing great work.”

This is part of the EAPM Style and Accessibility Guide, and the Guide continues to grow along side it. Thank you, friends, for supporting our work so we could launch this new project.

AccessFest: Virtual by Design. Oct. 9 to 11

Stacy hits the conference circuit — again

Chief of editorial Stacy Kess will be back on the conference circuit this fall — this time from the comfort of her home office.

Kess will be leading two panels and part of a third panel at the Investigative Reporter and Editors (IRE) AccessFest conference.

AccessFest is an annual digital conference from IRE built to discuss inclusivity, diversity, and accessibility topics in journalism. Kess will be leading panels about accessible interviewing and basic digital accessibility in journalism. She’ll also be joining Joanna Kao from the Pulitzer Center for a panel on AI and accessibility issues.
