EAPM, trusted partners offer journalism-centered accessibility training
Equal Access Public Media joins with two accessibility experts to offer services to media outlets and organizations
Oct. 20, 2025 — Equal Access Public Media has joined with independent journalist Emilia Ruzicka, a digital accessibility expert, and disability and human resources consultant Britne Jenke to offer accessibility training to journalism organizations, news outlets, and others in the media space.
This journalism-centered training focuses on:
- journalism web accessibility;
- work-place accessibility;
- and journalism language accessibility.
I didn’t see this anywhere out there in the journalism world,
said Stacy Kess, founder and chief of editorial at EAPM. There’s a lot of seminars and classes in the journalism world, and there’s even an annual virtual conference focused on inclusion and accessibility. But not a well-rounded training for newsrooms or media organizations.
Kess said the only option was to partner with the best in the business when it came to digital accessibility: Ruzicka, a journalist with a deep knowledge of digital design and accessibility, and Jenke who built Inclusive Pixelation, a disability consulting business. Jenke also serves on the Equal Access Public Media board of directors.
Enhancing news and newsroom accessibility is an ongoing endeavor. I’m thrilled to join Equal Access Public Media and Britne Jenke to bring these conversations to the forefront,
Ruzicka said. I’ve engaged with dozens of newsroom workflows through my journalistic and academic work and can’t wait to help news organizations make tangible improvements to their accessibility practices.
The course material will take into consideration the unique needs of the media space, such as the 24-hour news cycle, publishing online, heavy use of social media, and other issues, but provide the essential knowledge to become more accessible and inclusive for the audience and employees alike.
I’m excited to partner with Equal Access Public Media and Emilia Ruzicka on this unique training,
Jenke said. We believe accessible news starts with accessible newsrooms, and we’re looking forward to sharing our expertise in workplace inclusion to help the media space become more accessible for everyone.
